Conceptualization
JANU is a symbol of hope and revitalization in Portland's Albina neighborhood,
honoring its African-American heritage by blending the
historic Hill Block cupola with the city's rose symbol. This concept
represents growth, transformation, and community restoration. JANU
addresses housing challenges through market-rate options, affordable
rentals, and pathways to homeownership while fostering entrepreneurship,
education, and workforce training. It embodies resilience and
restorative justice, illuminating a path to a more equitable future for the
African-American community in Portland.
